Kira M. Britt
Swiss Army Artist
Known as a "Swiss Army Artist" for her diverse talents and adaptability, Kira Marie Britt is a native New Yorker whose artistic journey spans multiple disciplines. She began her artistic journey as an illustrator, working with the Joan Mitchell Foundation, which led to her work being displayed at Cue Art Gallery in Manhattan. While honing her skills as an illustrator, she studied filmmaking at the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV). There, she created Evolution, a film that won Best Youth Film at the Crossroads Festival and Best Picture at the Flathead Lake International Cinema Festival. Evolution was later featured in a PBS series titled Our Camera, Our Stories, earning an Emmy nomination.
Kira has since expanded her creative repertoire, working in various artistic departments, including as a Makeup Artist for Knockout Game, which won accolades at the Macabre Faire Film Festival. She furthered her education at SUNY New Paltz, earning a BA in Theatre Design & Technology with a minor in Film & Video Production. Her expertise in theatre grew as she contributed to numerous New York productions, including her role as resident Scenic Charge at Playwrights Horizons, where she worked on Heroes of the Fourth Turning and The Thin Place. She also served as the Scenic Charge Artist for On Sugarland at New York Theatre Workshop. Her scenic art is recognized for meticulous attention to detail, bringing art directors' visions to life with precision and creativity.
Beyond her accomplishments in theatre and film, Kira is passionate about community engagement. She has spent the last decade instructing young filmmakers at her alma mater, DCTV. Her work fosters youth storytelling and provides hands-on experience for the next generation of filmmakers. With her unique blend of artistic skill, community-focused teaching, and technical expertise, Kira has earned recognition as a New York City Artist Corps Grant recipient and remains a sought-after collaborator across multiple creative fields. Her journey truly embodies what it means to be a “Swiss Army Artist.”
